Today I get the unique opportunity to talk to someone I really admire for his public speaking ability: six-time New York Time best-selling author and public speaking guru Michael Port. During our interview, you’ll hear all about his goal-achieving process and his tips for entrepreneurs at all stages.

In this episode, you will…

  • Learn about his struggle with food and how it’s changed his views on discipline and addiction
  • Find out how you can set yourself up for success with Michael’s financial strategy
  • Hear Michael’s best advice for entrepreneurs in three different scenarios with three different challenges
  • Discover what happens when you choose to be easy and go with the flow when working with others
  • Learn what’s next for Michael and how he plans to make his future dreams a reality

On this episode I get to welcome two guests: returning guest host Jon Berghoff, and last year’s Best Year Ever Blueprint attendee, Scott Groves.  Scott didn’t expect to get much out of the event, the only reason he even showed up was to support a friend.  But he became engaged in the event and has been able to accomplish some incredible things this year, both personally and with this company, Groves Lending Team.

Scott was already a success in his field, but after attending the BYEB event he personally funded $60 million in production, and his team is on track for a total of $100 million this year.  In fact, his entire team is up at least 55% in individual production.  Plus, Scott and his wife are closer than ever, and are expecting their first child (congratulations!!).  Now he’s here to share how you can get the most out of the BYEB live event.

In this episode you will…

  • Learn how Scott became engaged in the BYEB event
  • Discover the importance of a becoming more vs. doing more mindset
  • Find out how to help your team grow

Sep 9, 2015

While growing up, we’re often told that the sky is the limit and we’re encouraged to dream big . . . but how big is too big? When your goals are too large, it’s easy to become discouraged when you don’t achieve the impossible. Join entrepreneurs Hal Elrod and Nick Palkowski as they discuss ways to make sure that your goals are measurable and, most importantly, achievable.

Being successful goes beyond simply visualizing what you want and attracting it to your life. Being overconfident only hurts you in the end when the reality does not meet your expectations. This is not to say that you cannot achieve great things; you can! It just might take longer than you might expect and the road might be a bit bumpy on the road to success. In this episode, Hal shares three strategies to help you to create smaller, measurable, and achievable goals.

  1. You’ve got to earn the right to set bigger goals by achieving smaller ones.
  2. Break down bigger goals into three smaller goals.
  3. Extend your time frame.

A good reference text to see if your goal is to big is to look back at what you’ve already achieved. If your goal is more than two times larger than your prior achievements, you may want to evaluate your goals. Remember that even elite entrepreneurs fail all the time; failure is a huge part of the game! Being an entrepreneur is all about learning, changing, and adjusting to anything life throws your way.

“Every single one of us, at some level, has a responsibility to take our knowledge, our life experiences and transform them into a book that could help an infinite amount of people.”

One of the best ways to become the best possible version of yourself is through being coached by a high quality mentor. It’s the secret weapon of the elite. This indispensable, but elusive tool was once a privilege only few could afford, but with Tony Stubblemine’s launch of Coach.me, immediate and affordable coaching is available to aid you in achieving any goal. Join host Hal Elrod as he and his guest, Tony Stubblemine, debunk the myth of overnight success and discuss the importance of quality coaching.

Tony will be the first to tell you that it was by working hard and working smart that he got to where he is today. But before taking up running in high school, he was convinced he was lazy. Not until he realized that he ran more miles over the summer than anyone else on his high school team did he see that he wasn’t lazy, he just needed to be passionate in order to apply himself.

After a record breaking senior year of high school, Tony decided to run at Grinnell College, a Division III school in Iowa. With each injury that he encountered, he couldn’t understand why he wasn’t getting faster. After looking back at his running career, he realized that he had stopped doing the strength exercises that had once been a focus of his during his high school years.

To know true success, the secret isn’t hard work; it’s working smarter. One of the best ways to ensure that you are working towards your goals in an effective and efficient way is by doing the following:

  1. Write your ideal plan and decide everything in advance to avoid making emotional decisions
  2. First, focus on the habit. Then, focus on growing.
  3. Make sure that the first thing you do in the morning is something fun that makes you want to get out of bed

By starting your morning off right, you set yourself in motion for the rest of the day. While Coach.me can be used in conjunction with The Miracle Morning, it has helped people to lose weight, quit drinking, become more productive, and even meditating. Rather than see any set back as a failure, Tony encourages you to change your perspective. Failure only happens when your expectations do not match your goals. Instead, view your failures as an opportunity to reset and repeat and you’ll achieve your goal in no time.

When asked to list their top fears, most people list public speaking first and death second. As Jerry Seinfeld once said, this means that if you’re at a funeral, you’d rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy. Face your fear and cultivate your skills with Hal Elrod as he interviews Jon Berghoff on how public speaking can help you to influence, inspire, and communicate to large groups and in personal interactions.

One of the most important keys in speaking effectively to an audience, no matter how large or small, is understanding the importance of context over content. You might have a very well-written speech, but if you aren’t aware of where your audience is coming from, it will fall on deaf ears. Jon gives his Context Creation Formula to help you in creating an effective framework.

If you ask them, most audiences will know a good speaker from a bad one. But what are the qualities of a good speaker and how can you develop them yourself? Jon and Hal each share their top three tips to help you on your public speaking journey:

  1. Empathetic
  2. An ability to inspire
  3. Self-awareness and presence
  4. Vulnerability
  5. Storytelling
  6. Entertaining

Never underestimate the power of preparation and always remember that, even though the spotlight is on you, public speaking is ultimately about the audience and their experience. Join Jon Berghoff and Jon Vroman at their Speaker Trainer Experience event to learn more about delivering exceptional speeches and how to distinguish between speaking and training.

One of the saddest things in life is to realize you could have been, done, and had so much more… and do nothing about it.”

Don’t allow yourself to put off achieving your goals. One of the most destructive forces preventing people from getting the results they want is procrastination. Join Hal Elrod and Nick Palkowski as they share strategies to avoid procrastination entirely and to stop procrastination in its tracks.

  1. Identify areas and  activities you are procrastinating and ask yourself: what is it costing you?
  2. Ask yourself why you are procrastinating.
  3. Clarify the next 3 steps in each area and know your goals
  4. Prioritize and schedule those steps into your schedule
  5. Act without thinking

Challenge yourself to a 30 day no procrastination challenge. Choose just one area to focus on, identify the next three steps you need to get closer to your goal, and implement those steps in your schedule. Don’t allow yourself to stop and consider the reasons to procrastinate and follow through on what you promised yourself you would do.

“Extraordinary results are born from extraordinary clarity.”
